AUGUST 2000

August 1, 2000 Tuesday
BREAKFAST: 700 am Coffee with half and half cream, 1 TLC peanut butter cupcake
LUNCH: 12 pm 3 slices (3 oz) ham wrapped around 2 oz (3 slices) swiss cheese, 1 Darrel Lea chocolate bar over the course of the next couple hours, one delicious bite at a time until suddenly! It was all gone *oops* And although they no longer give me diarrhea, my little tiny town in Colorado qualifies for the name "windy city" much more than any town in Illinois does, once I have eaten one of these treats!! Yikes. Don't eat one at or before work, you have hereby been warned.
SNACK: 3pm 2 TLC bran crackers with 2 Laughing cow chz wedges and a CarboLite chocolate egg protein shake  OMG. Can you say chocolate 'instant breakfast'? These shakes are GOOD. I added some heavy cream and a little chocolate DaVinchi along with some ice cubes, and it tasted JUST like a frozen chocolate milkshake. I highly recommend this shake mix. Besides, it is nice to have something without soy in it - given all the negative things they have been saying about soy lately, I get more than enough in my fake baked goods and occasional tofu. AND  these shakes have ZERO carbs. Yup, ZERO.
DINNER: 6 pm Chicken Alfredo over shredded steamed napa cabbage & cauliflower. OMG. This was one of the fastest  and best  low carb meals I have made. And it took a total of just 20 minutes, start to finish. If it hadn't been so very colorless I would have snapped a picture, but it was just too white. I was a bit frazzled and neglected to write down what I did as I went along (duh!) but I will recreate it again soon, and it is definitely going on the list of entrees for the book today. Only 4 carbs per serving, I can add some red peppers for color and still hit the under 5 per serving mark that I strive for. And the napa cabbage was much better than the bed of green cabbage that I had under my lemon chicken.
Why was I frazzled? Because yeast bread attempts #4,5,6,and 7 are all in my trash can. I wasted a whole day and a bunch of expensive ingredients trying to improve on a recipe I had already made satisfactorily! DUH. I wanted to lower the carbs further and got what I thought was a good idea after reading the ingredients in the CarboLite bread mix. I should have left well enough alone! Though I finally got it through my thick head what was happening, and one more try might just do it. But I am going backwards to bread #3 that I liked, and making SMALL modifications next time. And if the carbs are higher than 5, well, it will just have to be recipe that waits for maintenance to be enjoyed, you know? Some things just can't be lowered enough without totally sacrificing taste and texture and that I vow not to do!! I'd rather eat none than eat a poor imitation, and that goes for ALL foods, not just bread. I do not think I am alone in this sentiment.
WATER: 4 liters
EXERCISE: 16 minutes on the NordicTrack, then 110 crunches (advanced position) and a 2.2 mile fast walk. No weights as today should be an off day (you can't do resistance training every day and get results, your muscles need a day to heal in between. But aerobics, situps, and walking, stuff like that, you can do every day.)

Morning after notes: The first time I got on the scale it read exactly the same as yesterday. Talk about pissed off! I went back to bed after announcing to the bedroom walls in general (loudly) that I was NOT going to exercise today, and I WAS going to eat like a %$&*ing pig- and why shouldn't I????
After five minutes though, I went back in the bathroom and got on the scale again  why?? It's not like I had a BM or anything that would have changed it  and yet it was down half a pound., Then I noticed that the BF reading was at 27  ya, right!! That's my GOAL  so I got on it again, and took care to place my feet straight on the pads like you're supposed to instead of the pigeon-toed stance that I naturally assume when not paying attention, and lo and behold! This time I read a full pound lower than yesterday, only .5 over my all time low. I think I will start yelling at the walls EVERY morning, LOL. And TOM made an unexpected afternoon comeback yesterday so I suppose I could assume that I may drop yet more water today. Maybe tomorrow I will be back to where I was  just in time for a visit from my brother and his family. We are headed up into the hills camping and though I will attempt to make a journal by hand of my food, there will several days when I am missing in action from this website, starting this weekend don't miss me too much, haaha.

Not too hung over though, and I am sure I can thank the sugar free mixer for that! The cousins are getting on like gangbusters and if the rest of their visit is anything like Day 1, I am going to have a ball - and gain a TON.

August 4, 2000 Friday
BREAKFAST: 700 am Coffee with half and half cream, 1 piece chocolate cheesecake
LUNCH: 12 pm My favorite salad: romaine lettuce with grape tomatoes, red pepper, feta cheese, bacon and S.H. mustard, also ate 1 oz macs and drank a beer
SNACK: OIAB
DINNER: Italian grilled chicken breasts, MockaRoni & Cheese, another small salad sans the meat this time and made with asst. baby greens instead of romaine
My brother invited another CHEF who he worked with in the old days when he lived here to eat with us! (No pressure there, right?) I also fixed scalloped cheesey potatoes for everyone else, but all the adults actually PREFERRED the mockaroni!! Both cooks, as I like to all them (gentle ribbing) really liked the red relish, too. And couldn't guess what was in it, either (I was patting myself on the back then, hehe). My SIL said she would not have even tried the mockaroni had I told her what was in it first! (you can see she hasn't thoroughly checked out the recipes on here yet! But she probably will. I fixed all my faves for her.)

August 5, 2000 Saturday through August 7, Monday
Truthfully cannot remember precisely! On Sunday morning we left for camping, where I typically ate bacon and eggs for breakfast, and salad for lunch, with steak, venison brats, hamburgers, or hot links for dinners. I had a couple pieces of cheesecake and a couple servings of OIAB while there. I boiled up some turnips and sliced them and put them in foil (potatoes for the kids and bro) with an onion ring and some butter and salt and pepper. Those were good thrown on the grill as a side dish, and we had creamed cucumbers and salad and rainbow salad with us, so I ate well and stayed very low carb. The last night I toasted one marshmallow and ate it. I had eaten barely any carbs that day and the pkg. said only 4 each. Not too bad ~ considering. (We couldn't have a fire up there because it is SO dry, but the kids toasted marshmallows over the grill or camp stove.) I felt really strong and good, & I did a 4 mile walk one morning early, at an average elevation of 9,500 feet, all up and down. Then there's the constant walk to go pee, downhill and then back up a steep grade. That has to add up. And then rafting. All in all, I was good, but I was good on vacation in June too and gained more than a pound a day, so I was pleasantly surprised to see that I was still the same weight upon my return. Of course I was up 2 TOM lbs. when I left and those should have passed, but I'll still take it!

August 8, 2000 Tuesday
BREAKFAST: 83000 am Instant coffee with half and half cream, scrambled eggs with sausage, bacon and pepper jack cheese, 2 Tb. 505 green chili sauce over the top, couple more pieces of bacon on the side
LUNCH: 12 pm My favorite salad: romaine lettuce with grape tomatoes, red pepper, feta cheese, bacon and S.H. mustard, also ate 1 chicken breast
SNACK: OIAB
DINNER: Drank 2 miller lites after rafting the Arkansas through Brown's Canyon. Yee-hah! A class III float even at this time of year. I snorted a bunch of water in the bottom picture but kept my seat in the raft  and so did my 8 year old son, 10 year old nephew and 12 year old neice, which is more important. Bet they won't forget this. Who's your favorite aunt NOW, huh? Haha

BREAKFAST: 700 am Coffee with half and half cream, 2 oz. bacon
LUNCH: 12 pm salad: romaine lettuce with ½ pkg. buddig chicken meat, 2 oz. extra sharp cheese, 1 oz. bacon and S.H. mustard, also ate ½ a Darrel Lea bar
SNACK: 1 oz. maui onion macs, 1 piece TLC jerky, ½ of a TLC choco coconut bar
DINNER: ¼ lb. burger with Kraft Deluxe cheese and 1 cup TLC coleslaw
Last day with the family and it went WAY TOO FAST. Bro announced at dinner that he is "ready to do this thing too" which made me feel pretty good. My SIL lost weight while she was here, on vacation!! (and she was not exactly devout, drank Doc Otis lemonades  daily! (unknown carb count but my guess is high) - and a bunch of bloody marys one day instead - at 9 carbs per cup). Or course our eating was similar otherwise. It is just further proof to me that I AM NOT NORMAL as far as metabolism goes. That's okay, at least I am secure in the knowledge that"it" was NEVER MY FAULTand it is not my style of LC food that keeps me from losing either. I do keep getting smaller regardless of how slow the change is on the scale, and for now I must try to be content with that. Because I am just NOT going to go the calorie restriction route. I've been there, done that, and WILL NOT GO BACK there. Remember me saying " as God is my witness, I will never be hungry again" Well, I am determined that that remain true. Because deprivation only made me look and feel ill while I lost just as slowly. Gotta count those blessings instead of dwelling on the "it's not fair, everyone else loses a ton doing what I do" blahs

Morning after notes: Up 1.5 pounds. You can guess how I feel about that!! I thought the above numbers were damn near perfect and expected to lose at least a pound of the extra I have been carrying around. L My muscles are SO SORE today, though. Even my thighs, from bracing myself to stay in the raft I guess. Maybe they are just late retaining water in order to heal, repair and grow. I can hope, right?
My bear picture was on the front page of the local weekly paper today  I emailed it to them right after taking it. Apparently there have been quite a few sightings besides mine. They say it is too dry and they are hungry. Hmmm. Where have I heard that before.smile.

BREAKFAST: 700 am Coffee with half and half cream, 2 pc. (½ oz.) bacon, 2 sausage links
LUNCH: 12 pm Leftover chix breast (5 oz) topped with creamy Italian sauce/dressing that I whipped up  gotta add this to the book list now, it was awesome and my daughter begged me to make more for her when she tasted it! 2 oz. (½ cup) blueberries
SNACK: nope
DINNER: TLC green chili and a LaTortilla quesasilla (the quesadilla wasn't to good, won't try that again  the LaTortillas just don't cook up right, they get all tough  but the chili was fanatastic and only 3 carbs per servings. DH ate 3 servings but one was enough for me.
WATER: at LEAST 4 liter
EXERCISE: Nordictrack- 15 hard minutes  then could only manage 110 crunches  then 230 separate arm lifts  THEN walked to the PO (in the heat, yet, at noon, only 99 degrees here!) that's 1.5 miles

Morning after notes: Little low on protein, esp. considering all the exercise. Fat is low again  was sort of worried about that  but, even though I am still retaining a ton of water (due to the heat?) I was down 2½ pounds to my NEW all-time low weight!!! I am going to have to change the flasher on my front page!!! Wish you could see me grin J It seems that right now reduced calories may be the ticket. It didn't used to work for me at all, but things change, maybe this is the way to shake things up for a while. Don't know if I can keep my calories that low regularly, or that I would want to (I do enjoy some cheese! And I swore I would not go hungry) but I will try for a while to hit these low numbers 2 or 3 times a week and see what happens

August 12, 2000 Saturday
BREAKFAST: 700 am Coffee with half and half cream, 4 sausage links, 2.5 scrambled eggs with pepper jack cheese and 1/3 cup TLC green chili over the top  YUMMM
SNACK: 10am after my ass-kicking walk  1 slice Oroweat light wheat, toasted with butter and almond butter. Found this new Maranatha almond butter in my store, all natural and it says 2 Tb = 6 carb and 6 fiber. I input it into Lifeform as 6 and 5  since nothing in life is really free! And my snack still only had 6 carbs. Yahoo.
LUNCH: 115pm  1 leftover chicken breast shredded in a latrotilla with 1/3 cup shredded cheese and 1 Tb sour cream & some green tobasco sauce. Later I ate ½ a Darrel Lea bar.
DINNER: No real dinner but in three separate installments I ended up eating 6 oz. of cream cheese (2 oz. nuked for 10 seconds and stirred into 1 Tb. french vanilla Davinchi and 1 tsp. splenda, with 1 tsp, almond butter. I know, bad girl. Should have eaten a real meal. Had no kids around to cook for though. And cream cheese is the perfect LC dieter's food, right, Dr. A? (Don't plan to make a habit of this, don't worry.)
WATER: 4 liters
EXERCISE: 1.5 mile power-walk that completely kicked my ass. I should not have worn the wrist weights, my arms reminded me of my weightlifting from yesterday before I even got out of my neighborhood. And my sneaks are worn out (new in April, $90) so my feet start hurting at the ¾ mile point. Going school shopping on Monday to Grand Junction, so I will replace them then. Can't wait! (not for the school shopping, for new Adidas'!)

Percentages look good, at least. Today I plan to work on a new dessert  steamed blueberry pudding cake. Wish me luck not eating it all if it comes out as well as I hope!

August 13, 2000 Sunday
BREAKFAST: 700 am Coffee with half and half cream, 4 slices (1 oz.) bacon, 3 scrambled eggs with 1 oz. pepper jack cheese, 1 slice toasted LC soy crunch bread with butter
LUNCH: 115pm  TLC Green chili  my 8 year old BEGGED me to make more, how about that! Then a serving of steamed fruit pudding  like a bread pudding, you know? Topped with fruit syrup and a drizzle of heavy cream. YUMMM. All the fruit (rhubarb and blueberries this time, think I'll do strawberry next time!) pretty much covered up that nasty soy taste completely. It was really good ~ both my kids wanted seconds.
SNACK: 4 pm 1 oz pepperoni
DINNER: 530pm about 8 oz. of smoked turkey, yummmmmm, if you don't have a smoker, consider getting one! Cheap at Wal-Mart and well worth it. Also ate half of the first vine ripened tomato from my garden, I am totally impressed with myself. No one out here grows tomatoes but me and mine always do great! My first garden, a few years ago, I got a plot at the community gardens and out of 30 plots mine were the only tomatoes to ripen on the vine at all  and I had a bushel from just 4 plants. All Hail Miracle Grow!!

August 14, 2000 Monday
BREAKFAST: 700 am Coffee with half and half cream, then at 9, 1 Keto-bar while on the way driving to Grand Junction to spend entirely too much money school shopping.
LUNCH: 1230pm in the car in the parking lot  about 1 cup of Romaine with 2 oz. smoked turkey and 3 Tb. Ranch, also 1 venison pepperoni stick, carbs unknown, which I counted as ½ oz. pepperoni cuz it has so much less fat in it
DINNER: Ate one more Keto-Bar while driving home about 5:30, at 8pm I had two bites of the turkey salad I had just made, then at 9pm I had 2 oz. of cream cheese with 1 tsp. Splenda and 1 Tb. french vanilla Davinchi syrup
WATER: only about 3 liters
SUPPLEMENTS: I forgot!

Morning after notes: Whooooosh! Down another 2.5 pounds!!!!! All (good) things DO come to those who wait (patiently). I knew (hoped) it was coming ~ because I stepped on the scale when I got home last night and fully dressed (no shoes) I was only 2 lbs. over my new low weight. That makes 7.5 pounds in just 5 days, 3.5 pounds of gain-back and 4 pounds of new fat loss. Hallelujah, I am ecstatic.

August 15, 2000 Tuesday
BREAKFAST: 630am Coffee with heavy cream only  got tied up at the computer forever, it seems.
LUNCH: after my workout, 11:30am - about 6 oz. filet mignon that I pan-fried in safflower oil, 2 fried eggs, 1 slice toasted LC soy crunch bread with butter. Then a little less than half of a Darrel Lea bar. I was ravenous! Didn't quite make it the whole hour after before I ate, but close.
SNACK: about 3pm I got hungry and ate about a cup of the turkey salad I made with celery and mayo and vinegar and a titch of splenda.
DINNER: 630  beef tenderloin with a few slices of marinated cukes and tomatoes, then at 8pm the cream cheese concoction I have been eating at night lately with such good results.(But then I stayed up till 12:30 so I night as well have skipped it!)
WATER: 4 liters
EXERCISE: Well, after only 2.5 minutes on the NT, I started having heart palpitations (in between the constant pounding I was already having) a headache, and felt like I was going to throw up. This made me realize that I forgot my supplements yesterday! So I went and took today's, then did 150 crunches, 100 arm lifts, and one more minute on the NT before I decided to give that up for the day and took a 2 mile walk instead (sans weights, my arms hurt enough already!) TAKE THOSE SUPPLEMENTS!

August 16, 2000 Wednesday
BREAKFAST: 630am Coffee with half and half cream, 3 eggs scrambled with 3 slices Am. Cheese and 1 oz. bacon
LUNCH: 1230 Romaine with turkey, feta, cukes, tomatoes and my new Creamy Italian Parmesan. It is so good I think I can give up my carby ranch dressing, between it and the Sh Mustard I'll be just fine.
SNACK: about 3pm 3 oz. cream cheese nuked with Davinchi syrup and cocoa and splenda
DINNER: 630 Leftover green chili and I made a cheddar cheese crisp to go with it
WATER: barely more than 2 liters, don't know why but I just wasn't thirsty today
EXERCISE: Managed 175 crunches. When I started I didn't think I'd make 50  I was still sore from yesterday. But I kept at it until I had done MORE than yesterday. Am going to try to do these every day, and some cardio and weight lifting every other day (except for weekends, weekends are for being a slug).

Morning after notes: Numbers look good nvertheless I am up another half pound, dang it. Oh well, that's nothing, really, I am still closing in on 40 gone and just a few weeks ago I didn't think I was ever going to break 30. Better be happy, I guess! I may even be retaining water because of an infection and I am having some trouble exercising, I have had a sore on my right calf since MEMORIAL DAY weekend. I had my doctor check it before we left for California in June because it looked infected and wasn't healing. I then took a whole course of keflex, a heavy duty antibiotic, then I had him check it again in late June when I went in for my blood work and pap. It STILL hasn't healed. While rafting last week it got wet, soft, bumped, and broke open. Either I re-infected it or the infection has just now finally come to the surface cuz I am MISERABLE. The top layer peeled off and I now have a hole in my leg where it has been abcessing under the scab. I soaked it a bunch yesterday and kept applying neosporin and it HURTS HURTS HURTS. And although it looks worse than ever, (can you say RAW MEAT) I think this was all a good thing, at least something is happening now. I do have a big red patch around it, though, which worries me a lot as it has started to travel down my leg in a line. I can't help but think that if I had had a systemic infection for this long I should have been either cured or dead by now in the middle of the night I lay there thinking about lovely things like gangrene and flash-eating bacteria and cancerous tumors. Then I call myself a hypochondriac and roll over. I will give it till Friday afternoon and keep the hot compresses going and if it is not significantly better then I will see the doctor - AGAIN. But I do not think I will be NordicTracking for a while. I think I can handle a walk though. I guess I will have to credit all the vitamins and exercise and good nutrition for holding this infection at bay all these months so far.
Been looking over my food notes  I ate 2 Keto-bars one of the days I swooshed. I never seem to lose anything when I eat Atkins bars ,though. Tthe Keto Bars say they have 4 carbs and I think they count ALL of them, unlike the Atkins bars and the uncounted 12 carb of glycerine. Anyway, I am giving up all the Atkins bars & I am ordering some more KetoBars. Even though I am eating an Atkins bar right now! DH doesn't like the Keto bars (am I the ONLY one who does?), so maybe he won't eat them all in one week. Like he does all the rest. Grrrr.

August 17, 2000 Thursday
BREAKFAST: 7am Coffee with heavy cream, 1 Atkins bar
LUNCH: 1230 Romaine with half a fresh tomato and 2 oz. cheddar and my new Creamy Italian Parmesan.
DINNER: I had something planned but had a cooking catastrophe  I was working on my sweet green relish and I screwed up the seasoning but good, the first attempt. So I decided since it was already in tiny tiny pieces, surely I could put it down the disposal without any problems. DUMMY! I should know better, I stopped using that damn disposal right after they finished my brand new kitchen  you see, we did all the remodeling ourselves with the help of some friends in various trades (DH is in construction and so was I for over ten years, between the two if us we have ALL the trades covered!) ANYWAY, whoever we got to plumb was not the brightest bulb in the fixture - and we ended up with about 8 90s in our pipes, which I think is why it CLOGS UP ALL THE DAMN TIME. Anyway, when I realized that I had clogged it up  again  I started pulling all the crap out from underneath so we could try to snake it out  AGAIN  and discovered that my top of the line water filter was leaking like a seive under there. The board in the base of the cupboard was all rotted out, dipped down, and holdiong several quarts of slimy stinky water, smelled like some 300 year old basement under a morturary. So now we had to cut out that piece of cupboard floor and check the subflooring (I have oak hardwood in the kitchen, a REAL catastrophe if IT gets flooded and warped!!) Now Dh is planning to re-do the pipes and eliminate three of the 90s but meanwhile I have dirty dishes all over and no way to clean them unless I carry them all to my bathroom and do them in the shower. *BIG SIGH* DAMN IT!
Anyway, after this happened, I ate some pepperoni chips and cheddar cheese with the kids instead of the dinner I had planned to cook, and I had a 6 oz. glass of Chardonnay and ¼ cup of pistashios in the shell (I shelled them and weighed them and they weigh 15 gm. Now I know how much to enter in Lifeform and I am keeping a ¼ cup size scoop right there in the jar to help me measure.) I did stop at the one glass of wine but it gave me the munchies, cuz then I ate an ENTIRE Darrel Lea bar. THEN I went and nuked 2-3 oz of cream cheese and stirred a Diet Swiss Miss cocoa packet into it along with Davinchi syrup. Egads! And it had been a real good day (diet-wise) up till then .
WATER: only 2 liters, don't know why but I just wasn't thirsty today  AGAIN. What's up with that?
EXERCISE: Managed 115 crunches. When I started I didn't think I'd make 50  AGAIN - I am sore from doing them every day! Also did about 300 individual arm presses of various types and that's all, no walking even. (Leg hurts!)

Morning after notes: Low protein, bad girl! Still I am down half a pound. I WAS up ANOTHER half pound, which really pissed me off - and so I went back to bed for an hour to wait for DH to finish with the coffeemaker and leave for work before I got up (I drink COFFEE, and he drinks mildly-coffee-flavored water with cream and AS!, so we don't share coffee). Anyway, by the time I slept some more and then went to the bathroom again, I was a full pound less than before. Isn't that weird?! But I'll take it, between my leg and what I did to the kitchen yesterday, I don't need any additional stress DH is pissed at me, to say the least, but if I hadn't caused a clog, we might not have discovered the other catastrophe-in-the-making until it was too late and we lost a $6K oak floor.. so I am trying to rationalize my stupidity by telling myself it was all for the best. Meanwhile, I have no usable kitchen. Guess I will work on typesetting recipes for a few days more instead of cooking. As long as I can cook all next week while the kids are in school, this shouldn't affect the book schedule. (SCHOOL! What a lovely thought.) And I think I will pitch the damn $300 water filter, start buying water like everybody else in this town, and put an insta-hot or a soap dispenser in the hole instead. (We already went through this once - I got replacement parts for the filter and we thought it was fine  it WAS fine, for months. Gradually I filled up the space down there with cleaning crap again and forgot to keep checking for new leaks. Duh! Duh! Duh! I will not stop kicking myself for this one for a looong time.

August 19, 2000 Saturday
BREAKFAST: 7am Coffee with half and half cream, 1 oz. cooked bacon
LUNCH: 1230 3 oz white albacore tuna in 1.5 Tb mayo, wrapped up in a latortilla, also a chunk (1.5 oz) cheddar cheese and some cream cheese
SNACK: none I was trying very hard to be good
DINNER: 530 Chauteaubriand (flank steak marinated and boiled whole) and Twice-Baked Faux-tatoes
WATER: finally drank the whole 4 liters again today
EXERCISE: Managed 200 crunches! By then I felt better and also did 350 arm lifts, then I walked 3.15 miles. It rained hard the night before and the ditches were almost musical, full as they were of running water. The clouds were big and puffy and lying low, hugging the mountain tops like puffy mounds of meringue and the smell in the air was incredible. There's nothing quite like the sudden burst of green that accompanies the end of a long dry spell. What a day!

Morning after notes: Stayed away from AS all day. Managed to drink all my water. Took all my supplments. Did everything right in fact, these numbers look damn good, and I exercised my ass off for an hour and a half straight. SO WHY AM I UP HALF A POUND???? Arrrrgh! Reciting all the old platitudes about muscles that are worked hard retaining water for repair but am still not very happy with my "reward" for being good I can tell you one thing: This Sunday I will be a true slug. I may do my crunches since I managed to them 6 days in a row so far BUT THAT's IT! And I think I will make ice cream after dinner too. I deserve it!

August 20, 2000 Sunday
BREAKFAST: 7am Coffee with half and half cream, protein shake Mid-morning, I had a TLC Peanut Nirvana bar
LUNCH: 1230 ½ a LC pizza  I was so pissed about gaining yesterday that I threatened Pizza Hut - but I made a LC version instead. No more weak crust attempts, from now on I'll put it on a cheese crisp and call it good.
SNACK: 2 more PN bars
DINNER: New York steak, Shrimp & Scallop Scampi, ½ cup leftover Twice-Baked Faux-tatoes & another bar
WATER: 4 liters
EXERCISE: Managed 200 crunches! Again, even on Sunday.

Morning after notes: I decided if I was going to gain weight I might as well have a reason, and enjoy it, So I invented a new dessert that the family proclaimed "the best ever"and I ate like a pig, and indeed, I gained 2.5 pounds overnight. Just water probably, as I can't even budge my rings. Damned if I will get upset, I can lose it again. Besides, being very good was getting me nowhere fast the last few days. At least now I have someplace to go and maybe when these water pounds roll off they'll take some new weight with them

August 21, 2000 Monday
BREAKFAST: 7am Coffee with half and half cream, then at 10 I fixed 2 fried eggs with 3 oz. leftover steak and 1 slice toasted LC bread
LUNCH: 130 Made chicken ceasar salads to go and hopped on the motorcycle and rode up to Vail with my buddy. We spirited our other friend away from work and all picnicked in Ford Park. My big celebration of school starting, I rode my bike for the first time in 6 weeks. Summer? What summer? Oh that summer when I wrote the book and never went outside, yeah, I remember that summer  sort of. Haha. Hopefully it will all be worth it. Regardless, it will all be over soon.
SNACK: none
DINNER: Nuked some pepperoni chips and ate some sharp cheddar and a handful of pistachios
WATER: 3 liters
EXERCISE: None at all, didn't even find time for my crunches. I guess after 7 days in a row one off won't kill me!
CALORIES: 2020
FAT: 164 Gm, 74% (70 saturated fat gm, 32 %)
CARBS: 38 gm (9 fiber) 29 net 6%
PROTEIN: 98 gm, 20%
Morning after notes: Thought I would dump more of the gain-back but I am down just a half pound. I sure gain easily, I wasn't even that bad AT ALL when I gained three pounds (35 carbs and 3000 calories) and I will have to lose them all over again, the hard (slow) way, it seems. Oh well, I have that doctor's appt. in a couple hours, he may cut 3 pounds of gangrenous flesh out of my calf. I am scared to death about this whole thing. At least I got a bike ride in yesterday since I may be laid up for a while now Cross your fingers for me!

August 22, 2000 Tuesday
BREAKFAST: 7am Coffee with half and half cream and a Pnut Nirvana bar
LUNCH: 130 Keto-Pasta topped with TLC Marinara. I was practically in tears. The pasta wasn't ALL that good, but it was recognizably pasta, and with a killer sauce on top, it transported me back, back, to the old days  the only difference was that after I was done eating I did not feel as though I needed a nap! I will be ordering more of this stuff!
SNACK: 30g pistachio nuts (about 50) 2 Diet Rite colas  this stuff is GOOD. Funny, I was a Pepsi drinker and this reminds me the most of real Coke, but I like it better than either, really. Drank 2 so it could be a test, I was thrilled to pieces to find it in my local store, finally.
DINNER: Taco salad, then half a frozen pnut bar. Whoa! They are even better frozen, like a chewy but still soft ice cream bar of some kind. Mitch took one to a guy he knows at the jobsite who went on the Atkin diet and the guy almost cried, he said. He said I should cut them in the size of an Atkins bar and he'll charge him $3 a piece and take one every day. Hmmmm. A profitable little sideline that would be! And I don't think his wife cooks at all, so even if he buys a book maybe I can still build a pre-made products business.. hmmm, potential everywhere. Time is the only current enemy.
WATER: 3 liters
EXERCISE: Not after the doctor dug around in my leg all morning to take a culture.

Morning after notes: Protein inadequate but I didn't do diddly (physically) all day, so, so what. (It does matter, but I have other things on my mind that seem a lot more important right now.) Down 1 pound. Calories low enough to balance out the 10% carbs, I guess. Considering how low the calories were, I sort of expected to lose more, but I will always take a loss, happily. 1.5 pounds of gain-back to go, still. Considering the infection in my leg (It is an infection! It is an infection! It is an infection! The culture WILL grow something - cuz I don't want to have to see the general surgeon for exploratory surgery and biopsy, and that is the next step, he says). Anyway, I can at least blame this current weight gain on the stress my body is under from fighting an infection (true or not, hehe). On the up side, my pulse was 58 and BP was 110/71 when they checked it, and they couldn't be any better. I just wish he hadn't asked me quite so many times about any family history that includes skin cancers or disorders. I don't have the time to worry about this right now.. not to mention it puts a crimp in my exercising. And scares small children. And keeps me from wearing pants. And keeps me from sleeping. This is the first time in my life I have ever prayed for something TO grow in a culture. But if it does then we can treat it with antibiotics instead of surgery. GROW, bacteria, GROW!

August 23, 2000 Wednesday
BREAKFAST: 7am Coffee with half and half cream and half a peanut butter and bacon sandwich  1 toasted slice LC bread with 1 tsp. of pnut butter and 4 slices cooked bacon. Ate 2 more slices by themselves
LUNCH: No real lunch, too much tasting going on  ate 2 TLC brownies and 3 deep fried battered cheese stix
SNACK: 1 slice TLC Impossible Breakfast Pie
DINNER: Stuffed Santa Fe Chicken at 930 PM I ate half a nirvana bar

August 24, 2000 Thursday
BREAKFAST: 7am Coffee with half and half cream, wasn't hungry and just didn't force myself for a change
LUNCH: Tasting! Starting at noon-ish: 1 bag Lean Protein Cool Ranch chips, 1 slice Maple Nut Trifle, 1 square CarboLite dark Chocolate, 1 square CarboLite white chocolate
DINNER: 530  TLC French Onion Soup and Decadent Crab Puffs. I put my crab puff mixture from the old days on some imported Italian toasts I found that have only 5.5 carbs each. OMG. Talk about good. One or two of those toasts with chicken salad or tuna would be so good for lunch. At 5.5 carbs each, they are do-able for sure. They are called Bellino Gourmet Italian Toast wheat crackers and I found them near the crackers and melba toasts.
WATER: 4 liters
SUPPLEMENTS: Started 1 Twin Lab Dual Sustained Release Tab in place of GNC multi
EXERCISE: Shot answer NO. Long answer TOM showed up early (right after I started making the cake and after the UPS man showed up with white and dark LC chocolate and 0-carb chips! OMG, don't tell me that's not a conspiracy of some kind, bringing me that stuff when I am most vulnerable and when I am already making something yummy! But I did really well not pigging out, I just never did fit in my exercises.)

August 25, 2000 Friday
BREAKFAST: 7am Coffee with half and half cream, 1.5 slices Impossible Pie
LUNCH: 1 cup romaine with 1 oz. pepperoni, ¼ cup shredded cheddar, 3Tb. TLC Ranch, 1 leftover Santa Fe Chicken

Morning after notes: I expected a big gain since I am bloated and on meds for my leg, which felt tingly and then swelled some last night, but to my surprise there was no change on the scale. Must have lost a little bit of fat, to balance out the water gain. Thanks for the small favor, God. I appreciate it.

August 26, 2000 Saturday
BREAKFAST: 7am Coffee with half and half cream, 3 slices bacon
LUNCH: TLC buttermilk biscuit, I ended up eating THREE!! one with TLC sausage gravy, one with butter and the last one with butter and TLC jelly. YUM.
SNACK: 1 Nirvana bar, 2 Tb. TLC strawberry jam
DINNER: 6pm  Grilled filet mignon with scalloped turnips, Spoonbread rolls, & some leftover TLC BBQ beans. Then TLC strawberry ice cream. Ended up eating Mitch's too cuz his was melting while he talked to the cops. He and a guy he works with worked on our dirt bikes and got them running yesterday. Someone on our street of almost-all-dirt-bike-riders-and-owners called the cops to complain that they were riding up and down the street and "disturbing the peace" (while tuning them up, you know?) Anyway, the guy working for him used to live behind us. "She" keeps putting the guy in jail, it's one of those lovely long stories, anyway we're pretty sure she must have seen him here and decided to call the cops about the bikes and see if she could put him in jail again. But now she's messing with US ..BIG mistake!! Our SIL works for the sheriff's office and we are gonna find out for sure if it was her or not, and if so, it is not gonna be a fun neighborhood. She has been running down here crying on our shoulder about this guy to us for weeks now, how dare she try to get US in trouble now, just as a small part of her revenge on him? She knows that he works for Mitchand they are friends and he is apt to be here, big deal. Why does every couple on the world that goes through a break up think Mitch and I belong square in the middle of their dispute, anyway? Seems we are always playing Johnny-in-the-middle and I am sick sick sick of it!!! I have enough problems of my own without all the whackos in the world adding to them  speaking of whackos, while I was eating Mitch's melting ice cream his ex-partner from years ago called on the phone and scared the hell out of me. First she said she had been drinking and wasn't supposed to be, but when she started talking crazy I asked her to call sometime when she was sober and she said she'd only had one drink .. and I actually believe her. She said she had been in and out of mental hospitals for years and I definitely believe that! You see she had a substance abuse problem when she was running the books (she was a partner then) for Mitch and X's company years ago. X had an affair with her (she was married at the time, he wasn't) and then when she lost her ability to run the company any more due to her drug use (and I think after she embezzled a LOT of money from us to FUND her drug use) they got together and voted her out of the company. This has been 6 years ago now! So anyway, she calls and is talking all crazy, first it's "THEY took everything away from me and my life has been hell ever since" then it's "X is gonna pay that bastard" and finally " I love you, Karen, and please give Mitch a hug from me". Humming the Twilight Zone theme music, Karen says "This woman is whacked. I hope she didn't hurt herself and even more so I hope she doesn't come here and hurt one of us!!" A really scary thing, she seems completely fixated on a past which never happened  not the way she remembers it, anyway. Even though I liked her very much, I was all for throwing her out of the company when she wouldn't get help for her cocaine addiction. You can only help an addict just so much and then it's time to cut the cords so they WILL bottom out  that's the only time they are apt to seek help, after hitting rock bottom. But this gal is more messed up than ever. SCARY SCARY SCARY. If I disapppear and the website is never updated again, someone better forward this entry to the local police, 'kay? Cuz one the "exes" did it for sure. And I think it was the ex-partner from Grand Junction Colorado. Just wanted this on record somewhere, cuz I am a truly paranoid low carb person after the events of this day and I am only kidding a little bit.

PERSONAL: The doctor in Eagle who had planned to cut open my leg looked pale when he saw it this morning, and he said he didn't think it was possible for him to do it in the office, due to the extent of the infection around it and that fact that stitching that flesh might not even work cause it may be too "rotted" to hold stitches. He said "It would probably be okay - but if you ended up with a 16 inch infection site or I couldn't stop the bleeding  and I said "You're telling me I could LOSE MY LEG FROM THE KNEE DOWN aren't you? And he said "YES!" Gulp.
So we made an appointment with a general surgeon/oncologist in Vail who I know (and trust! more importantly) from 16 years ago. He got me right in and he took off as much of the main scab as he could (talk about painful!!) and put me on antibiotic #3. He also gave me some Percodans for the pain and drew around the infection with a Sharpie marker. Told Mitch to take care of me!! (I love that doctor) keep me off my leg as much as possible, make sure I soaked it for an hour at least twice a day in the tub, to try to pull the rest of the scab off with tweezers while soft, and to take the antibiotics religiously. He took new cultures from the bottom, under the scab. He didn't come right out and say so, but he thinks the other doctor is** NUTS**, I can tell. He closed his eyes and shook his head when I told him he had planned to cut it out, and when I said it had staph, he just sort of smiled and said "everything has staph, that doesn't mean anything". Anyway, when I left HIS office, I no longer felt like I was apt to become an amputee, or die. I felt much better. Of course, we don't know a lot yet, he said he will call mid-week with results from the new cultures and if the redness travels outside of the line he drew I should come back immediately. He also gave me permission to drink one or two beers if I want to, on Monday! (I mentioned when he gave the new anitibiotics that 'there goes my brew-skis on Monday' and he said 'Nah, have one or two anyway, sounds like you deserve them'. This is my kind of doctor!! So I am hurting a lot and will continue to, I just pulled off some more scab when I got up. OUCH. But it looks like I apt to live, (with TWO legs, no less) Yippee!!

September 4, 2000 Monday
BREAKFAST: 7am Coffee with half and half cream, 1 Keto-bar
LUNCH: 12pm 1 cup Romaine with 1 HB egg, tomato, red pepper and TLC ranch
SNACK: none  antibiotic diarrhea has started  OUCH! I had forgotten what hemorrhoids were since I went LC. Let's just say that I have not missed them  and these are as BAD as any I ever experienced - including right after giving birth. I am afraid to eat or drink anything! But am keeping up with my water anyway (of course).
DINNER: forced down an Atkins bar and 1 devilled egg from the birthday girl's party  which 18 girls showed up for! Thank God for Mitch, I spent most of the time in bed with my leg elevated under a hot compress (when I wasn't in the bathroom). I did make them a huge batch of buffalo wings, which went over great. No major disasters, I did find a pop can ring on my 115 year old dresser which I use for a buffet but I think I can get it out. I can't walk across the floor without becoming glued to it, either, but at least they did most of the dishes for me. 2 solid hours cleaning today and I will be back to where I was before I got laid up with this leg thing. I may wait for her to come home from school and order her around doing it instead, too! Seems only fair {I did wait for her. Of course, she did a crappy job - she is a teen. But it's a start.}

September 5, 2000 Tuesday
BREAKFAST: 7am Coffee with half and half cream When that stayed down, I went to the store and bought some live acidopphilus culture milk and yogurt. Then I made a double protein shake with both milk and yogurt. Call the Doc, he said to stop taking the antibiotics until we find out if they are helping, so this should be the only high carb fixer upper I need, I hope.
LUNCH: 12pm 2 oz cheddar made into a chz crisp taco. 1/3 cup Rainbow salad in the taco
SNACK: Atkins chocolate mocha crunch bar. Not bad! In fact, one of the best flavors I've tried.
DINNER: 2 leftover brats dipped in mustard and TLC catsup

September 6, 2000 Wednesday
BREAKFAST: 7am Coffee with half and half cream At 10:30 I sauteed a chicken breast.
LUNCH: 330 Ate a double serving of TLC Mexicali Quiche (find the Impossible Pie recipe on the message board and make it with pepper jack cheese and chorizo sausage instead of spinach and bacon. OMG. Really good. Really fast. Really easy!) Then I ate a ¼ cup of pistachios.
DINNER: Ooops. I ate 3 TLC almond biscotti cookies instead of a meal. My eating habits have really suffered with the whole book process, once I finish making the last few recipes I will have to concentrate again on eating balanced meals and plenty of veggies. Meanwhile, oh well.

September 7, 2000 Thursday
BREAKFAST: 7am Coffee with half and half cream, 1 Atkins bar
LUNCH: 2pm Double serving Mexicali Quiche. Even better the next day, nuked. 1 Pnut Nirvana bar. Big difference between this batch (with Ultimate Lo Carb whey protein shake mix) and the one made with CarboLite shake mix. Still good but not nearly as much.
SNACK: none
DINNER: 2 TLC Fish fritters, and some TLC tartar sauce. I also made TLC clam chowder, which DH has approved (I hate the stuff, New England native or not! But wanted to include it in the cookbook) So three recipes today, even though I went in to Vail for the biopsy on my leg. I've had 4 Percosets since. There won't be any results till Monday, that's a long time to have to wait for something like that. Of course I am firmly in denial that it could be cancer. After all, I am invincible. And it would be just too cruel a joke for me to come down with something serious now that I have finally cleaned up my act almost completely! I was more dreading the pain involved with numbing the area, now that that's over I am SO relieved that I'm not really freaking about the other  yet. I had a cup of coffee fortified with french vanilla davinchi syrup after dinner too.

Not very good, I think I am cured of the fake pizza urge, there is nothing like the real thing and until I can afford to occasionally indulge in the real thing, I am all done with fakes!

EXERCISE: none. Again. I am really depressed about this leg thing, and I seem to have no uuumpf to do my abs and arms even, I just sit and around and wallow in self-pity because I can't go for nice long walks in the beautiful fall weather to start my workouts. It's PATHETIC and I am not going to do it anymore. The infection is improving steadily and starting tomorrow I am walking again daily, with my new ankle weights, damnit!! And resuming my abs and arm weights too. If my leg infection gets worse, then I will discontinue the leg work. But this is ridiculous. Really. And I was supposed to get word on the biopsy today but after jumping 6 feet everytime the phone DID ring, it turned into evening with no call from the Doc. So the party line around here tonight is "No news is good news". From this internet to God's ear!!

September 12 Tuesday
I DON'T HAVE CANCER.
THANK GOD!

540pm Today was difficult, to say the least. At 10 am I broke down and phoned the doctor's office and the stupid little girl who answers the phone told me 'yes I think your results are in but I can't seem to find your file and the doctor's in his other office today" so from that moment on my imagination decided that he must be waiting to break bad news to me in person at my appt. tomorrow, on Wednesday. But he just called me and he just got the results now and they are GOOD. For some reason all I can do is cry How do you spell RELIEF? N*E*G*A*T*I*V*E***B*I*O*P*S*Y* that's how!
LIFE IS GOOD. DON'T ANY OF YOU FORGET TO LIVE IT.
TODAY MAY BE ALL WE HAVE AND WE MUST ALWAYS MAKE IT COUNT!

Morning after notes: I am down 2 lbs. from yesterday, 1.5 of that new loss, for a grand total of 42 pounds gone! Looking at this menu I find it hard to believe that I had too much fat, according to the dietician I saw when attempting to control my cholesterol through lowfat. If you ask me, it was a banner day no matter WHAT your diet planyet they think anything over 70g/day is too much. WHAT A JOKE. I didn't even have any cheese or butter, and I went way over thatI WAS hungry in the afternoon, but I ignored it due to stress and wanting to LOSE something. I've had so much yuk in my life the last ten days I really needed a boost and this did it. Changing that flasher on my home page makes me REALLY HAPPY!!! Not as happy as a negative biopsy, of course, but STILL  happy!

September 13, Wednesday
BREAKFAST: ½ pot (3 mugs) real coffee with 2 Tb. heavy cream, also 2.5 scrambled eggs with 1 slice Am. Cheese melted in (OK I made 5 eggs with 2 slices and split it with my kid, so..)
SNACK: 1030 on the way to the doctor I ate a Keto Bar
LUNCH: 2pm after shopping  Salad: 1 cup Romaine with 30g cherry tomatoes, 1 oz. shredded cheddar, 4.5 oz. chicken breast and 1.5 Tb. TLC Ranch, also ate 100gm. fresh raspberries (about 20 berries) and stopping was VERY HARD. Then I went and ate 1.5 TLC cheese crackers  which are still good 5 weeks? after making them.
DINNER: 600pm 1 bowl TLC beef stew  I am back to finishing up the last few recipes for the book! (Now that I can concentrate again)
WATER: only 2 liters, need to work on this again

EXERCISE: The doctor released me to exercise again, so I guess I didn't hurt anything by doing so yesterday! At least it beat an eating or drinking binge, I HAD to do SOMETHING to take my mind off of waiting, after all. So tomorrow I will do it all again.

September 14, Thursday
BREAKFAST: 2 mugs real coffee with 1 Tb. heavy cream altogether, also 3 fried eggs with 1/3 oz. (cooked wt). bacon
LUNCH: ¼ cup sunflower kernels
DINNER: 600pm several (more like 6!) slices of TLC World's Best Beef Briskit, which I decided to add to the book today. It's a pretty easy recipe but if you don't know how or have never done one this way. Well, let's just say I decided it couldn't hurt to include it. TLC garlic herb mashed Faux-tatoes and then  TLC peach ice cream, with fresh Palisade peaches (Palisade Colorado is where there are lots of vineyards, orchards, and wineries, and their peaches are fairly famous in the state.) this is the best flavor ice cream yet  and I left it to last thinking just the opposite!

EXERCISE: 5 minutes on the Nordictrack, till the blister caught up with me from walking in weights the other day  I can walk mile after mile without them, usually, but the 5 lb. wt. rubbed a blister into the back of one heel in just 3 miles, so if you decide to try that, beware! Then 200 ab crunches (with the aid of an Ab Roller), THEN 4 marine-style "real" crunches with the aid of nothing, not even holding down my feet  and that after the others, impressed me a LOT! Did 30 minutes of weights, including leg lifts while wearing the infamous ankle weights.

LUNCH: 2 string cheeses and 3 oz. cold brisket
DINNER: 2 wraps made with Chorizo sausage, some Hebrew National beef dogs that needed to be eaten, and cheese, in the garlic variation of latortillas. 2 TLC mints after dinner. Then the BIG NO-NO: 2 TLC almond biscotti at 10 pm.

So much for the lower calorie part of my experiment if I hadn't gotten too busy to plan a dinner, I might have succeeded, but then I threw together a high fat high calorie wrap filling and then compounded the error by eating dessert at 10pm. Oh, well. One pound is no big deal, it will be gone soon!

September 16, Saturday
BREAKFAST: 2 mugs real coffee with 1Tb. heavy cream altogether, 3 oz. cold brisket, 3 fried eggs
LUNCH: I actually got on my motorcycle!! I strapped a hard rollerblading knee pad over my owie and that worked well to protect it from flying gravel, etc. We had Chicken Ceasar salads with ranch dressing and no croutons in a restaurant in Glenwood Springs. Also drank a Miller Lite at the restaurant and then when I got home I had 1 Dacquiri with my girlfriend who was here playing with the kids and waiting for us when we got back. (Dacquiri  ice, vodka, fresh raspberries, titch splenda, and Davinchi strawberry syrup in the blender with a dash of heavy cream. YUMMMMM.)
DINNER: DH cooked for me  I got really faint in the jacuzzi  I need to drink WAY more water while I am in there, and no more drinks first! Sheesh, I was so faint I could hardly get out of the tub safely and I spent the rest of the day in bed, first reading then watching the Olympics all evening. Anyway, he fixed grilled boneless chix breast with TLC BBQ sauce and steamed garden zucchini with butter. Very good, think I'll let him cook more often. My LEG looks a little worse all day today, I am wondering all this exercising might not be good for it after all. L And it hurts again, bad, in the tub and afterwards.
WATER: 6 liters  like I said, I was WAY dehydrated when I got out of the jacuzzi and drank 1.5 liters in one big long swallow!
SUPPLEMENTS: AM *1 Twin Lab Dual Sustained Release Tab *2 99mg Potassium *2 Microhydrin antioxidants *1 Essential Fatty Acid Complex *500mg extra C PM Percosets  now that I am not hoarding them "in case of the worst" I can take them for pain relief. Withering away in a hospital bed full of pain would not be my preferred method of checking out and I had 66 percosets hoarded up to make sure that would not be case, if the biopsy results were bad. I told my friend this and she got angry, but you know, I wouldn't have checked out until my life was no longer worth living. At least this shows that I was facing facts, as far as I am concerned. A long slow death is just not my style! I continue to thank God daily that I will not have to face that kind if an end, at least not any time soon.

LUNCH: None, really, still full from big breakfast. I did have 2 chocolate nirvana bars at 2pm when they were finished. They're not as good as the PB ones, IMO, but for anyone who doesn't like PB (they do exist I guess) or is allergic to nuts, they'll be great. Then I nibbled on 2 thin slices of deli turkey and ate 1 cheddar flavor string cheese.

LUNCH: 130p 1.5 cups iceberg lettuce with 23g (3) cherry tomatoes and 1 ring (23g!! too how funny) red pepper, 1 HB egg and 2 Tb. TLC ranch  I have been measuring my dressing lately, and 2 Tb is a tad too much! I guess I was using LESS than I thought, how 'bout that?
SNACK: 2 new almond drop cookies, 1 almond biscotti from freezer. Originals are better. Gotta stop messing around with recipes that are finished and adequate already and work more on the manuscript. I keep trying to improve and add things. I vow to work on typing the ones I have already completed, instead. I expect a week more to finish the rough draft in its entirety, then another week to polish it and look for errors. I need to send out an update letting everyone on the list know that my leg delayed everything. My face has erupted in cold cores from feeling stressed about this  how come I NEVER get them on my lips??!! I am so weird. But that let me know that I need to deal with it. Heading to the doctor this morning  am typing this without benefit of coffee, as he's doing a new fasting cholesterol check as well as checking my leg today. Which has been hurting like hell but seems to look better, again. I hope he thinks so!
DINNER: 615pm 1 huge (10 oz after waste) New York strip steak and 1 serving Vegetable Casserole (a take off on my favorite green bean casserole with the mushroom soup and Durkee Onions on top  my version needs less of the substitute sauce I made but was pretty good!), then 2 Chocolate Nirvana bars

Got my cholesterol test results back. Bad news. My triglycerides, which were once my problem, continue to drop and are now only 106. However my LDLs have been climbing steadily and are now at 186. HDL @ 45, giving me a total of 268. While these numbers are admittedly FAR far better than what Lipitor / lowfat was able to do for me, they are not what I want to see. I will changing my goals to include a cap for saturated fat of under 50g per day, and I will restrict eggs. I already backed off on cream, cheese, and red meat, I guess I will have to restrict them still further. CRAP-OLA! Breakfast just got tougher. I have to order more bars and now I need a new hiding place for my half of them. What a royal PAIN.

September 22, Friday
BREAKFAST 7am Coffee  3 mugs with 1.5 Tb. cream total, 1 Keto Bar
LUNCH: 12pm A SANDWICH  with 2 slices of Oroweat 9 Grain Lite bread (13c total), 3 slices Louis Rich turkey, and TLC jalapeno mustard sauce, No cheese, no mayo.. my lower fat regimen starts today, in an effort to bring my LDL cholesterol back under control.
SNACK: about 2 Tb. of heavy cream  my new whip cream machine with the co2 cartridges arrived today  of course, the day I pretty much gave it up!  so, I just had to try it. Mixed some cream with Davinchi vanilla syrup and a touch of Splenda, and it tastes great! How easy is that. Then I ate 25 g of cherry tomatoes out of my garden. OMG. Just likje candy, I can really believe tomatoes are a fruit, now.
DINNER: 5pm  Big pile of garden zucchini nuked with a little butter, olive oil, garlic, parmesan and salt and pepper. Smoked turkey breast with TLC BBQ sauce. Then 2 sq. of Darrel Lea chocolate bar.

Morning after notes: Lost a full pound in spite of TOM. Hardly surprising considering how low calories were. Looks like I overdid the low"er" fat thing, I came in way under my new goals I was not miserably hungry, in fact I didn't even end up eating any extra carbs. Of course I did not make my fiber goal either .. All in all, a good start though.

September 23, Saturday
BREAKFAST 7am Coffee  3 mugs with 3 Tb. powdered creamer total, Atkins mocha crunch bar. Plus 1 bite of a Premier 8 choco pnut butter flavor bar  I found it at the local grocery store and I keep reading about people who think they taste like candy, so I bought two. DH and I both look at each other and say "You can have the rest of mine!" as we run to the garbage to spit out the bite we took   BLECH! YUK! PUKE! My original assessment stands. These bars suck!
SNACK: 1030am 2 Branacrisps spread with 4 tsp. natural p-nut butter
LUNCH: 1230pm Salad with 1.5 cups garden romaine, 40 gm cherry tomatoes, 2 oz. turkey, 1 Tb. feta, 1 tsp. jalapeno mustard, 1 Tb. TLC ranch, 1 slice Oroweat 9 grain bread spread with 2 tsp. Adam's natural pnut butter
DINNER: 5pm  at the bowling alley where we took Matt and friends for his party  1 oz. peanuts, 1 string cheese, then 7 chicken wings in ranch and 3 pieces celery. No cake or ice cream, naturally. But I found myself actually tempted, again.
WATER: 3 liters
EXERCISE: I scrubbed the kitchen as only an infuriated woman, on the rag, can. Apparently DH decided that even though the boy was having an expensive birthday party out, he was going to invite a bunch of other people to eat with us on Sunday, without my knowledge. So I get to spend THREE days making birthday fun, in a row, when I should be working on the book, and now I have all these people coming to my dirty house (if you think the family has been any less piggy since I stopped cleaning as hard, you'd be wrong! In fact, I think they are even worse when I am not right at their elbows bitching the while time.) This leg thing has me really screwed when it comes to scrubbing floors and lower appliance and cupboard doors, etc., cause kneeling is an exercise in pain. But exercise it is what I did, anyway, for about three hours straight in the morning. Think I made up a few new curse words ... OUCH. My parents are on their way here now, too, so that's more time that I will not able to work on the book. I may have to work all night long, all week next week to make up for this week/weekend! I don't how I will make up for the time I take off when my parents are here  I probably won't be able to. I can feel the stress-induced cold sore on my chin pulsate and spread, just thinking about it!!

Morning after notes: Sort of forgot about my new vow when I ordered chicken wings at the bowling alley. BUT up a whole pound! Hardly seems rightMy saturated fat isn't even very high. Didn't enjoy the powdered creamer in my coffee, it tasted sort of sweet, in a fakey way. I think I will go back to cream till it is gone and then start with half and half. That creamer crap is made of corn syrup solids and I do not do well with that sort of stuff, historicallybut I have it in the house now if I need it for a trip or something I guessperhaps that explains the gain, and if so, I am surprised it is not more. Once in the past I used evaporated milk in a recipe (mockaroni) cuz I was out of cream and just one serving was good for FOUR pounds gain! So I guess I got off easy this time, actually.

September 24, Sunday
BREAKFAST 7am Coffee  3 mugs with 3 Tb. cream total, two slices toasted Oroweat bread, spread with 2 tsp. natural p-nut butter and 1.5 Tb. TLC strawberry jam
LUNCH: 1230pm 1 cup rainbow salad, 1oz. nuked pepperoni chips and 1 glass white wine
SNACK: 2pm  more wine and several pieces of TLC P-nut Nirvana bars  lots of wine before the day was done, probably 5 or 6 glasses altogether!
DINNER: about 5 oz. ham off the smoker, 2/3 cup rainbow salad, 2 oz. sliced cheddar cheese

Morning after notes: Blew it in the worst way! And gained 3 pounds, too. Including the one from the day before, I am up 4 pounds for the weekend. Oh well. I guess everybody deserves on occasional break? I didn't eat anything really BAD just ate way too much of the allowable stuff. I am sure that is due to all the wine but I was in a FOUL mood, and expecting friends over with whom I wanted to have fun, and I guess I overcompensated! Not to mention that my team blew it  and lost to KC, of all teams. This was NOT a good day on ANY front.

BREAKFAST 7am Coffee  2 mugs with 2 Tb. cream total, 1 Keto Bar
LUNCH: One leftover hamburger cut up and put in a garlic latortilla along with jalapeno mustard. Small salad with mixed romaine and iceberg lettuce, garden tomatoes and 1 Tb. TLC ranch.
SNACK: 1 Nirvana bar
DINNER: 2 Tyson Mesquite flavor pre-cooked chicken breast pieces (1 oz each) and a pile of baby zucchini I rescued from my frozen garden (My tomatoes and lettuce are under plastic and it hasn't frozen hard enough to kill them yet). Added olive oil, red wine vinegar, salt, pepper, minced garlic and dried lemon peel to the zucchini, along with a tiny bit of onion and a sprinkle of Splenda, and nuked it all for ten minutes. Mmmmm. Even Matt loved it. After dinner I mixed some Fr. Vanilla Davinchi syrup with fat free cream cheese and a smidgen of whipped cream, for dessert. Before bed I had some Orange Mandarin Spice tea, no cream. Wonder if that had carbs, I didn't even consider it at the time?
WATER: 4 liters
EXERCISE: YES! A new record  THREE HUNDRED crunches! And the last 75 I did in the advanced position, and wearing five pound leg weights! Yee-hah. Then 4 sets of 50 leg lifts with the aforementioned weights in place, 1 set of 50 butterflies, and 2 sets of double armed (120 total) french curls for my triceps (arm wattles, bat flaps, whatever you prefer to call those flabby things under my upper arms!) If I had time, I would walk the post office and bank now. And you know what  I am going to put on a tee shirt and my tennies and GO ANYWAY. One more hour won't kill the book  it is already 1:00 o clock! by the time I get caught up with the web site, soak in the jacuzzi as instructed for one full hour, and do an hour's worth of gardening, housework, and then work out heck, I have not even had lunch yet. I will have to start staying up and working at night after everyone goes to bed, I can see that now. By the time I return from my walk the children will be home and any chance of concentrating will be gone until they are once again asleep. And quiet. Such is my life at the moment. Damned if I will continue to neglect my exercise. As long as the fall weather is this nice THESE SNEAKS ARE MADE FOR WALKIN'. And that's just I'll do! One of these days these sneaks are gonna  Not walk all over you, how about: walk my butt in two! (as in Half the size!) *I took the most circuitous route I could think of and turned my usual 1.5 mile round trip into 2.6 miles instead.

Morning after notes: Down just one more pound. (Still up one pound from the weekend). Considering how hard I worked out and how comparatively low I kept my calories and fat, I find that quite disappointing. Oh well. I'll be good today and maybe my worked out worn out muscles will release some extra water they may be holding  And I must remember that I do not lose as well with lower fat percentages, as sad as that may be.

September 27, Wednesday
BREAKFAST 7am Coffee  3 mugs with 3 tsp. heavy cream and 3 tsp. powdered creamer total, 1 Atkins mocha crunch bar
LUNCH: 4 oz. leftover mesquite chicken breast, cut up and put in 2 latortillas
SNACK: 1"x1" bite of a Nirvana bar
DINNER: 2 servings reduced fat mockaroni and cheese. Had a very different texture and was drier and not nearly as good. Duh! What did I expect, I wonder? LOL, Been here. Done that. Ate the second serving because I was not satisfied with the first, and then felt uncomfortably full afterwards, for the first time in months. (Didn't get the sleepy feeling I remember that usually accompanied that feeling, however). Also ate half of a grilled rib eye steak, probably 5 oz. after removing and discarding all the fat, including the crispy parts that I just learned how to enjoy again for the first time since childhood.

Morning after notes: Not an ounce of change. Except when I rocked back on my heels to try to trick it  and it promptly read a half pound HIGHER - as if to put me in my place! Tanita scales cannot be fooled. I am trying to convince myself it is all the excess protein, which CAN be converted to glucose, OR all the fiber, which tends to hold water all the way through, but as I am still up an entire pound from my weekend wine indulgence, it does seem as if that one should have slunk away by now at least. I feel like I have been eating practically NOTHING and it is hard not to feel pessimistic and depressed. Here I am, going back on everything I said, I am counting my freaking calories again and buying unsatisfying fat free foods! And since I gained weight when lowering my fat on vacation, and had to increase the usual fat percentages to even lose at all early on, it is like reliving a bad dream to be this "good" for three days in a row for  nothing. I must try it, for two months, though, till I get the cholesterol re-tested. If it is significantly better, this will all have been worth it. If not, I can abandon this CRAP forever with a clear conscience, keep an eye on my LDL, and decide how to treat it when I reach goalIn a perfect world, I could do this, continue to lose, AND improve my cholesterol again  but I have never lived in that fantasy place and sometimes I think it does not exist. Surely those people who SEEM to have it "made" have lots of warts under the surface. And lots of people have worse problems than this. Hell, my leg is a bigger problem than this. But this weight thing is HUGE and has the power to completely overshadow the more important things for some reason. I never felt this anxious about it (on low carb) until now. This does not bode well. I am afraid. This is too reminiscent of other times to which I wanted never to return. I hope I can do better in the coming days because if not, I will give up the lowered fat goal. Better to give up that goal than all of them!!

September 28, Thursday
BREAKFAST 7am Coffee  3 mugs with 3 Tb. CoffeeMate Lite liquid creamer total, 1 LC bagel with fat free cream cheese and TLC strawberry jam. And I ate both halves, cause I was testing the bagels. LUNCH: 1 serving leftover mockaroni, 1 plain (warmed) garlic latortilla
SNACK: an entire CarboLite dark chocolate bar over the course of the afternoon, one delicious square at a time (I re-stocked and I threatened DH when I gave him his half of the goodies. I don't THINK he'll be getting in my drawers to steal my chocolate again anytime soon

Morning after notes: Down 1.5 pounds - Am finally below my published weight, by just half a pound but that's all, no :real: loss after four days of very very low calories and much lower fat. Odd, but my fingers are still like sausages and TOM slunk away 3 days ago now. I wonder if I am retaining water due to my higher fiber intake? But in my FINGERS???? Weird. At least I have shown myself that I can lose weight this way, I was pretty worried about that. Now let's just hope my body doesn't adjust too quickly and go into starvation mode. These calories are WAY low! Seems like I should be at goal already, LOL.
At 2:38am I finished the rough draft of the book! Since my parents are due here sometime today, the timing is not an accident. I had to skip my workout, the Olympics, and both of my soaks to do it, but do it I did, anyway. Now it is graphic design, proofreading, adding/checking uniform metric and weight conversions, and pulling it all together with some page filling kitchen tips and low carb tidbits. Even with my parents here, two weeks MAX will do it. You do not know how happy this makes me, I see freedom in the wings. Freedom to DO what I please, and freedom to EAT what I please (LC of course, but still, I won't have to cook clam chowder in spite of the fact that I HATE it, etc.)

Rough time at the doctor yesterday, think I should find a new one. My wound is a little worse than last week, I admit I skipped two jacuzzis, but only two, last weekend when I was finishing the book. It immediately got worse again. Anyway, every week when I go in, he pulls the scab off with tweezers, and I am supposed to do it at home twice a day myself after spending an hour with it shoved right in front of the jet in the jacuzzi (ouch). I have been unable to get it all the way off since the weekend. But what I describe next has been occurring every time I go in: He starts to pull and tug on it, and I hold it in as long as I can but after only about thirty seconds, this time, a sharp intake of breath, almost a gasp, from me. He stops what he is doing, throws the tweezers down on the metal tray and declares "I can't take this. I don't even TOUCH it and you start moaning and groaning". THIS week, I finally got angry about this behavior, he acts as though I am being a big baby and it is totally uncalled for. SO, I tell him "Look, I am NOT a weenie person, I never ask you to STOP what you are doing, I never "moaned" either, I hardly made a sound, how dare you put all this additional pressure on me
